    Title:
Unable to Save File Using QuickOffice Pro
    Summary:
I'm unable to save a file that I've opened in the Android SugarSync app using QuickOffice Pro.
    Content:

Using the SugarSync Android App (Ver 3.6), I sync'd an MS-Word .docx file to my Samsung Galaxy S II. The file gets deposited in \sdcard\My SugarSync Folders. While still in SugarSync, I select my phone from the My Devices section on the main page. I tap on the My SugarSync Folders, after which I see my file listed. I tap on the file and it opens in QuickWord (from QuickOffice Pro Ver 5.5.209 - QO). I make a change to the file. When I tap Save, I see the message "Error - Could not save the file." I click Cancel, and see the message "Quickoffice Pro - Unable to save file" after which I can only click "OK." If I select "Save As..." I CAN overwrite the open file, but I have to navigate back to the My SugarSync Folders, which IS a solution, but a bit cumbersome and annoying.

The phone came pre-installed with QuickOffice (Ver 4.1.20110711.67 SAMSUNG). When I perform the operation described above with this stripped-down version (note that this is QuickOffice, not QuickOffice Pro) I AM able to save the file directly.

Finally, the User Guide specifies that "after the file closes, SugarSync detects the change and asks if you would like to upload the file to SugarSync." This doesn't happen with either product. I have to manually select the file and Re-Sync.

      Hi Chip-

I'm not sure what's causing this problem. I see that you've been going back and forth with one of our agents for a while, so I'm going to escalate your ticket to a senior support agent.

      Thank you!

Hi I have the same problem as Chip. Has a solution been offered? Zachery

Hi Zachery, First of all, I'm very impressed with the tech support provided by SS. Shortly after Amanda's post I was e-mailed by Rob, who asked me to provide a time when he could call me. And he did - we spoke two days ago. While the problem hasn't been resolved, it appears that it's a QuickOffice Pro issue. I had suspected that this was the case (I happen to work in tech support myself), but since I also wanted to speak to a tech about the feature detailed in the User Guide that I found doesn't work as advertised (described in my original post), I decided to give them a shout. Here's what I can tell you so far: Before I heard from Rob, I figured out that even though "Save" didn't work, selecting "Save As" does allow me to overwrite the file I'm editing. It's a few more steps, but it does at least let me accomplish what I'm trying to do. And more importantly, it indicates that there's something amiss in the QuickOffice Pro code, since (a) the problem isn't with the file location or read/write access, and (b) I am able to "Save" directly if I use the native version of QuickOffice (instead of the Pro version I recently purchased and updated). Rob was able to replicate the problem on his test phone, demonstrating that it was a larger issue. Hearing from you further affirms that. As for the functionality described in the User Guide that doesn't work, Rob attributed this to the fact that I'm looking at an outdated guide (Version 2.0 dated April 2011, which I downloaded a month or so ago from the SS website). He's not familiar with this feature, and is guessing that it may have been eliminated over the past year or two. (If this turns out to be the case, I'm OK with that - I just want to know everything a product can do, which is why I always read user guides cover to cover.) Rob is going to speak with Amanda to determine if there's a newer guide available, and correct the link on the site. And he indicated that I'd hear from Amanda or him once the User Guide issue is resolved. We agreed that I should contact QuickOffice Pro tech support again (I hope to get to this within the next few days) and provide them with what I know to this point. I'll be sure to post whatever I find out, as well as maintain this forum until the problem is resolved or I hit a wall. Thanx, Chip

(Sorry for the lack of paragraph breakouts above. Apparently I need do something other than provide two carriage returns between paragraphs. I'd appreciate it if someone could let me know here. Thanx! -Chip)

      Hi Chip

Has anyone reverted back to you on the solution to the problem at hand?

      tks

Hi Zachery, Sorry, I've been pretty busy lately and haven't had a chance to contact QuickOffice. But I will! (Hopefully one night this week.) Thanks, Chip

Hey Zachery, I've been dealing directly with a QuickOffice tech who seems to be pretty sharp and responsive. I just sent her details of the "inablity to save" issue, and will post again once I hear from her. Not sure if you're aware, but you can do a "Save As," select the name of the same file that you're editing, and save right over it. It's annoying, but it does get the job done. Chip

Hi Zachery - the issue has been passed along to the engineers at QuickOffice. There's no estimate as to when I might hear from someone, but I'll return to post whatever I hear. BTW, QO was recently purchased by Google, although there's no way of knowing wheteher this will impact their schedule. Hope to be back soon with some useful info! - Chip

        Hi Zachery,

I heard from a QO tech today that they were unable to reproduce the problem, so they're considering the issue closed. (I work in tech support myself, and boy, would I love to be able use THAT response in MY job.) I asked how I can get to my original post (they recently changed their problem reporting interface, which I'm sorry to say has so far NOT impressed me) to view the history of the problem because I thought I remembered a QO tech who was able to reproduce it. I'm waiting to hear back.

I believe QO was recently purchased by Google, so I'm going to pursue this issue for a while.

          hi Chip

          tks

As a workaround, instead of using Sugarsync app to access my files, I used QO app, login to Sugarsync and edit the necessary files. Not the ideal way but hey, it works for me.....for now :)

      Hi Amanda,

Has Rob spoken to you yet regarding the User Guide issue discussed above?

      Thanx,
